Its predecessor, though, dates back to 1875 when Isaav Blake started the Continental Oil and Transportation Co to sell kerosene in San Francisco, CA. Eventually, Conoco merged with Phillips in 2002. Phillips Petroleum Company got its start in 1917 in Oklahoma.
