Originated in 1880, Imperial Oil Limited or Compagnie Pétrolière Impériale Ltée in French. Canada's second-biggest petroleum company and a significant producer of crude oil, diluted bitumen, and natural gas; it supplies all the 1,770 Esoo-brand retail service stations. In 1880 Imperial operated 16 refiners in Southwest Ontario then later acquired and discovered oil at Leduc in 1947, becoming one of Canada's leading oil figures.
Out of the three refineries it runs, it produces around 421,000 barrels of crude oil and gas liquids with a capacity of 9,000 barrels per day of lubricant and holds 4.5 million net acres of conventional developed and undeveloped land in western and northern Canada.
