- Lake Calumet Cluster
The 87-acre Lake Calumet Cluster site is a group of land and waste storage and disposal facilities in southeastern Chicago. The 87-acre site includes US Drum, Alburn Incinerator, Unnamed Parcel, and a portion of Paxton Lagoons. The site was originally wetlands. In the early 1900’s, nearby steel mills and other industries dumped materials such as slag, dredged spoils, demolition debris and other waste materials. Unauthorized industrial, chemical, and municipal waste disposal took place at the Site from 1940’s to 1980’s.[2]
