Under Ray Keller's leadership in the Bureau of Land Management, the BLM - partnered with the New Mexico Association of Conservation Districts (NMACD) - eradicated "problematic plant species" such as sacred Mesquite and Juniper trees across 3.3 million acres of southeast New Mexico, through extreme measures such as aerially spraying pesticides from the air via helicopter. This program was launched in 2005 and is funded in part by the local petroleum industry. [1]
