Under Ray Keller's leadership in the Bureau of Land Management, the BLM - partnered with numerous fossil fuel companies and ranchers as a part of the Restore New Mexico initiative - eradicated "problematic plant species" such as sacred Mesquite and Juniper trees across 3.3 million acres of southeast New Mexico, through extreme measures such as aerially spraying pesticides from the air via helicopter. This program was launched in 2005 and received substantial funding from the petroleum industry. [1]
Ray Keller received the 2017 Ayudando Siempre Alli Award from the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association (NMCGA) at the Joint Stockmen’s Convention in Albuquerque under MCGA President Tom Sidwell.[2]
